Hope blossomed in her heart as she looked ahead again, only to find her field of vision filled by dark fur as she bounced off of a broad, muscular chest. Struggling for breath, she found the wolfman looking down at her with eyes that seemed to glow.

He drew his blade, there were still traces of troll-blood on it, and grabbed her shoulder. Calle tried to wrench free, but he was too strong. The blade descended, but missed her. It didn't miss her dress, though, parting the fabric from collar to hemline in a single cut.

The wolfman let the dagger go, its point sank into the rich earth. He tore her dress away, made short work of her shift, then used strips of her clothing to bind her ankles and wrists together. Pulling at the knots one more time, he nodded, then looked Calle in the eye. “Raff.”
